Share A Ride Program
Phone: 1-888-624-0367
Share-A-Ride is a Transportation Program that provides a ride for senior citizen and disabled residents who need to get where they want to go independently. Share-A-Ride is unique in that the driver will escort the senior or disabled resident from the door of their home to the door of the vehicle, if the person wants the assistance. The cost is $1.50 one way for residents in the urban areas of Erie and Lorain Counties, and $2.00 one way for residents in the rural areas of the counties.
Serving Our Seniors initiated this transportation program to help Erie County residents age 60+ to maintain their independence. The program has grown to include all of Vermilion’s senior and disabled residents. If the fee for transportation is not affordable due to low income, the client may call Erie County Board of DD to determine if an exception can be made.
The Share-A-Ride Transportation Program is a collaborative effort between Erie County Serving Our Seniors, the Erie County Board of DD, Lorain County Transit, the City of Vermilion and the Vermilion Community Services Board. Rather than each entity hiring its own transportation manager & driving staff, Serving Our Seniors formed a partnership with the Erie County Board of DD to transport Erie County residents, age 60+. Serving Our Seniors funds each trip taken by an Erie County senior citizen, and it has contributed three mini-buses to this transportation program. The Lorain County portion is funded by Lorain County Transit and the Vermilion Community Services Board.
